In Pink Box, photographer Joan Sinclair takes us on a journey inside the secret world of fuzoku (commercial sex) in Japan, a world where kawaii (cute) collides with consumerism and sex.
Unrivaled in their creativity and the sheer number of choices, the clubs featured in this book offer their clientele every fantasy imaginable. Subway groping, visits to the nurse’s office, and comic book character encounters are just the beginning of the immense list of p… More >>

A rather sophmoric look into Japan’s sex clubs. There is really no content in this book, rather photo’s that would get a pubescent boy’s mind wandering in ways it shouldn’t.
Overall I would not recommend this book unless it was for a gag, however the translucent pink synthetic book cover and title are some what playful

I have been reading what 1 poster must have spent weeks to write , i bought this book for several reasons and none really for kink, although who doesn’t love some fun sex,i have lived in Japan,Korea,China and hope to retire to 1 of those, soon if (my 4 diseases ) bad health allow me,i have been in Major Law Enforcement since i was 15 ,and entertainment the same ,What Joan FORGOT,to include except in an online interview was that SEVERAL of these Beauties are Not Japanese,i know the far east like i do the U.S. trust me ,i work with(not for) some very high ranking folks in certain matters of L.E. ,Japan, actually as we all know has the good ole boys known as the Yakuza folks, slide into Korea ,Hong Kong, and find (by whatever means needed) grab a few ,koreans and chinese to work in these, small hell holes YES;against their will. since they will bring in more customers than the young ladies of Japan ,i will state till my last dying breath that Korea has the most beautiful women period, with China 2nd and Japan tied for 3rd with the U.S. sorry ladies just facts… sorry for the long speech, But here is the problem i have here, why doesn’t she do a book on some ladies of the night from the U.S. ,and unlike these girls and women ( a lot, most) will slit your throat ,smile and leave ,so to a small measure i feel a lot of americans are very racist about the home turf..my associates will not like me saying this ,BUT;for that very reason i feel prostitution should be legal in the U.S. and taxable,(maybe).Good photos ,some hotties, some very uglies, but ;entertaining yes ,Japan does need to lighten up on the Japan only rule as ,to say who can go in or not,Korea ,Hong Kong, simply uses forms of bouncers ,But at least americans can get (how do you say) serviced as well.. Nuff said………..

To cut to the point and avoid unneccesarily long sentences that just make the journey to the same final destination take longer I’ll sock it to you like this.
1. Interesting photography. Some really stood out, others, I’m not really even sure why the author chose to include. Maybe, dare I say it, it could of included more.
2. It would be nice if the book could be a little more specific about the exact location of the places it chose to photograph. But I understand that maybe that was part of the agreement the author had to make to get permission take/show the photos.
3. After looking through some of the “ordering” sheets some places ask you to fill out [sometimes become disappointing when told that some of even the most basic sexual practices are banned or will not be tolerated can be somewhat of a buzzkill], to communicate exactly what the customer wants, it seems like for all of the sexual exploration and “venting” or release these places are supposed to be offering, and Japan is supposed to receive so much praise for, a lot of these places seem like little more than an over-priced cock-tease tinged trip to blue balls land, empty wallet and all. But maybe so many of these customers are so used to sexual repression that they don’t notice or don’t regard, don’t care. Maybe I’m too foreign to understand those type of unconventional sexual needs. Or maybe there is more going on here than the author knew or is allowed disclose. I am a foreigner, and a Japan is a different experience to the natives, as too many “non-compilant” foreigners screwed it up for the foreingers of today.
4. In the way of information, its pretty minimal, but definitely informative. This is a mostly a picture book, which is no way intended to downplay the significance of the pictures and the purpose of their exposure.

This is pretty wild. Some lady took pictures of risque images in seedy clubs. It’s probably a rare find to see these types of images if you’re not a regular seeker of fetish footage.
This makes me wonder if these types of clubs are available in other parts of the world, and if not why not?

I had the absolute privilege of attending the October, 2006, West Coast launch party for Joan Sinclair’s, Pink Box. This book of breathtaking images brought together the absolute best in San Francisco’s cultural and creative mix. The images that Joan has captured, and chosen to share in this book, epitomize the very best in culturally significant photography. Frank, honest, and shocking to some, their significance is never lost from view. I look forward to seeing something new each time that I reach for this photographic gem.
And the icing on the cake, I met Joan, and am now the proud owner of an autographed copy.
